In February of 2024 part of the roof above platform 3 at Perth station was blown off in a gale. We were called out to make safe and tidy the site.
Thereafter we were asked to replace the sheeting.
Due to the limited access onto the platform and the height of the roof, we could not get a suitable MEWP that would fit through station arches. Neither could we get a machine from the other side due to the weight limit on the access bridge.
Our only alternative was to bring in a large spider MEWP from England that would fit through the arches to facilitate safe access onto the roof. We used a smaller spider MEWP to pass the sheets up from below through the opening. Works were carried out dayshift on a Sunday under line block and the roof was reinstated using metal sheets.
