Network Rail Scotland Route – Addiewell Station – Platform 1 Reconstruction
The Challenge
Routine monitoring of the riser wall (which comprises brickwork with a concrete oversail block and concrete platform copes) identified significant bulging, this caused copes to drop and train services limited through the station. The exact reason for the bulging was unknown, however, it was thought to be because of poor platform/ back of wall drainage.
The Solution
Temporary remediation was undertaken with the cope being set back in place and supported by a timber frame until such time as the permanent solution could be undertaken.
CPMS were engaged by Network Rail to take down and rebuild the riser wall and associated works, including resurfacing the platform and installing drainage.
During the 12-week project, platform 1 was closed with no train services stopping.
